James Watts & Pablo Mason - January 12-March 6 th
2008

James Watts is a self-taught artist who creates paintings and sculptures that emphasize the retelling of stories and myths from around the world. His modern folk sculptures are wood, and covered with his trademark "skin of tin". This tin is colorful American iconography that is cut and tacked onto the wooden sculptures in a way that is both humorous and thought provoking. As a relentless experimenter, James has spent the last 20 years doing what he loves to do, and that is making art. His work is in collections around the country including the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego.

When he's not shooting for corporate clients or architectural publications, American photographer Pablo Mason spends his time between Mexico and America capturing images of life, in motion. His international travels have produced a body of work expressing that "human factor" of life, a story told by the expressions of the people he photographs. is not shooting commercial architectural images, this American photographer spends his time between Mexico and America capturing images of life, in motion. His international travels have produced a body of work expressing that "human factor" of life, a story told by the expressions of the people he photographs. This is a dynamic process, which evolves over time, constantly challenging the practitioner to see things with fresh eyes, to look beyond the familiar, and to discover new ground. Sometimes, this effort yields elegant images that defy simple categorization. A person’s posture, or an unlikely juxtaposition of elements, may suddenly hint at something that only resonates with layers of our psyche too hidden to articulate.

Meet Artists James Watts & Pablo Mason, and view their dynamic work, at the exhibition opening reception Saturday, January 12, 2008, 6-9 p.m. An additional reception will be held on Saturday February 9, 2008 6-9p.m.
